What To Do In An Electrical Emergency

Total power loss

Check if your neighbours also have a power cut — if so, it's a network issue and you should contact your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). If only your property is affected, check your consumer unit for tripped switches. If you can't restore power, call us.

Burning smell from a socket or appliance

Unplug the appliance immediately and switch off the circuit at the consumer unit. Do not use the affected socket. Call us — a burning smell can indicate a serious wiring fault.

Repeatedly tripping circuits

If a circuit keeps tripping after reset, there's likely a fault. Unplug all appliances on that circuit and try resetting. If it still trips, call us for diagnosis.

Water and electricity contact

Do not touch any electrical equipment that has come into contact with water. If safe to do so, turn off the main switch at the consumer unit. Call us immediately.

Sparking or arcing

Switch off the affected circuit at the consumer unit immediately. Do not attempt to use the socket or switch. Call us — arcing is a fire risk.
